Riccarton Rotary Club runs a weekly market which takes place every Sunday morning at Riccarton Raceway. Each week over 200 vendors are there selling a wide variety of goods, from fresh fruit and vegetables to secondhand goods, furniture, clothing, art, plants and trees, and food. Beginning in 1988 as a car boot sale, Riccarton Rotary Market now is the largest outdoor market in New Zealand and a major tourist attraction. It has also enabled the Rotary Club of Riccarton to over $3,000,000 back into the community and, equally importantly, it makes an immense contribution to the commercial and business life of Christchurch.
The Riccarton Rotary Charitable Trust has owned the market since May 2000, and it is run by a Market Operations Committee which employs the manager and 4 other staff. Five Riccarton Rotarians perform voluntary duties at the market each Sunday. For more information on the market please visit the market website at http://www.riccartonmarket.co.nz. Alternatively you can email Sue (sue@riccartonmarket.co.nz) or phone on (03) 339 0011 during office hours (9.00am to 5.00pm Thursday to Monday). If the office is unattended, please leave a message on the machine.
The Market
We are very proud of our market. Since our small beginnings in 1988 as a car boot sale fundraiser, the Market has enabled our club to put over $3,000,000 back into the community. Equally as important, it makes an immense contribution to the commercial and business life of Christchurch. Visit the market website at http://www.riccartonmarket.co.nz.
